Times Center: Bridges
July 25, 2017
Spanning from 1965 through 2008, Bridges charts the time- and space-crossing dynamic between a young woman in Selma during the Civil Rights Movement and another young woman in a more contemporary Berkeley as she fights for LGBT rights. The musical explores past and present, and what steps still need to be taken in the name of equality.
The concert, featuring music by Douglas J. Cohen and a book and lyrics by Cheryl L. Davis, was directed by Jeffrey Page. Destinee Rea played Francine, a young woman fighting for equality in Alabama, who falls in love with a white freedom rider.
The concert was a part of The Times Center's IGNITE Series, an ongoing concert initiative aimed at raising the voices of emerging artists.
